Day 29 - Lehava - Dean Lewkovitz

Day 29 - Lehava - Dean Lewkovitz

Today we started off the day with a bus drive to Sederot one of the closest cities to the Gaza Border. We met our tour guides,

Noach and Charlotte, who taught us about the history and land of Israel and its connection to Gaza. The information we received included the conflict between both Israel and the Palestinian’s. We went to a lookout that overlooked the Gaza border where we were able to see Gaza. This led to a lot of us asking questions about daily life in Gaza and who is allowed in and out of Gaza because of the strict rules. Before heading off to the Path to Peace wall, to see the wall situated between Gaza and Israel, we went for lunch to a Shawarma place in Sederot. At this Path to Peace wall we talked with our guide Charlotte about what it’s like for both sides living so close to the border. Back at the hostel we listened to a talk from a woman named Roni who spoke to us about when she was younger and before a lot of violence between Israel and terrorists in Gaza. She used to be able to drive into Gaza and had many friends who live in Gaza. She was able to go in and out of Gaza which in present day Israel this isn’t allowed because in 2005 Israel handed over Gaza and all Jews in Gaza were forced to leave.
